Well, it’s official. The Cheerleader I Live With outdid himself this weekend.

He spent two months planning a little surprise birthday party for me, and on Saturday it all came to fruition. He took me to lunch, we went for a nice walk in the sunshine, we drove through Stanley Park (one of my favourite things to do), and then we pulled up outside a little boutique hotel downtown…

The room was pretty great itself, but the balcony was AWESOME. It was bigger than the hotel room! But the best part of the room was the fact that it was filled with decorations, desserts, and my very good friends. Yay! Happy birthday to me! I’ve never had a surprise party before, so it all-around rocked my face off. We ate, we drank, we ate, we laughed, we ate, we drank, we ate, and we laughed… it was a damn fine evening, I must say.

(The Cheerleader I Live With, although handsome, is not very adept at acting out the word “sassy” in charades… the fact that we’d all been drinking heavily, and were hopped up on sugar probably did not help matters.)

Thank you to The Cheerleader I Live With, and The Cheerleader I Climb Mountains With who apparently was instrumental in helping sneak in the cupcakes that looked like dogs. Cupcakes that look like dogs are the only thing I asked for, and thanks to Jaybird Creations, I got two dozen of the little buggers!

Aside from the ‘pupcakes’, we had hand-made chocolates from my groovy chef-friend Min, we had salted caramel macaroons from my groovy chef-friend Min, brownies, three types of cookies and carrot/cream cheese mini cupcakes… it was a hella sugarfest! The Cheerleader I Live With also managed to snaggle my good friend Cheetah to come on over from Nanaimo to join the festivities – and she brought vegetables! Best. Birthday party. EVER.

I’m looking forward to the upcoming year – I mean really, when you start it off the way I did, it’s a good indication of what’s to come.

Happy Monday everyone – I’ll eat some left-over cupcakes for you today. Because I’m kind like that.
